If you do not remove all the plaque from your teeth, over time plaque hardens into tartar.

Eventually, the deposits become so challenging to remove that your dentist may recommend tooth debridement before a professional cleaning and dental exam.

Debridement requires your hygienist to use special scaling tools and an ultrasonic device to remove serious tartar build-up. The removal process takes longer than normal professional cleaning.

A debridement allows your dentist an unobstructed view, not blocked by tartar build-up of your gumline and teeth.

Why would I need a debridement?

Your dentist may recommend a debridement if you haven’t visited the dentist in quite some time or your at-home oral care routine needs improvement.

How often will I need a debridement?

Ideally, you will only need it once so you can return to regular teeth cleanings or periodontal maintenance if required.

What happens after?

Your hygienist will instruct you on how to properly clean and floss your teeth. You will be booked in for regular teeth cleaning 4-6 weeks after the debridement. This gives your gums time to heal if they were swollen as well as time to improve your at-home oral regimen.

At Dentique Specialist Centre we can help you improve your dental health and as a result your overall wellness. If you haven’t been to the dentist for teeth cleaning in a while, your hygienist or dentist may recommend a debridement. Call us on 020 8360 0500 to book your teeth cleaning and dental exam.
